Robert George Alden, 82, died Monday at Veterans' Memorial Hospital, Iowa City, following a short illness. Cremation was at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Wyoming Cemetery. Rev. Charles Johnson, Wyoming Presbyterian Church, officiated and Wyoming American Legion Post #259 conducted military services.

Mr. Alden was born November 25, 1894 in Hale Township and lived in the Wyoming area most of his life. He married Alice Fuhrmeister on January 5, 1921, in Cedar Rapids. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He had farmed in the Wyoming area and was owner and operator of the Alden Coal and Feed Company in Wyoming.

He was a charter member of American Legion Post #259 in Wyoming and was a 50-year member of Keystone 206 Masonic Lodge in Wyoming. He was a member and served as an elder trustee for the Wyoming Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Alden had received the Silver Beaver award, the highest award that can be given by the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Helen Riches of Bellevue, and Mary Jane Kyarsgaard of Wyoming, and three grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established at Onslow Savings Bank, Onslow.
