Mrs. Hattie Ballou passed away at the Care Center in Anamosa last Friday, June 10.

Services were conducted by Rev. Ralph Grote Monday at 11 a.m., at the Olin United Methodist church. Soloist was Mrs. William Ballou, with Mrs. Ronald Rogers as organist. Pallbearers were William, Andrew, Robert, James and Steve Ballou, and Richard Ahrendsen.

Interment followed in the Olin cemetery. Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hattie Theo Lathrop Ballou, daughter of Howard and Ida May Phillips Lathrop, was born May 10, 1887, in Oxford Township. She attended schools in Oxford Mills and high school in Oxford Junction and Washington, Ia.

She was married to Lloyd Ballou on June 20, 1905, at Washington, Ia. With the exception of seven years spent farming in South Dakota and Linn county, Ia., they spent their married life farming in southern Jones county, retiring to their home in Olin in 1951. Mr. and Mrs. Ballou observed their 69th wedding anniversary in 1974 at the Anamosa Care Center, where they were residing. Mr. Ballou passed away in February 1975.

Mrs. Ballou belonged to the Pythian Sisters, to the Unity, Friendship and Garden clubs in Olin. She was a member of the Olin United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women's Society until her health failed.

Surviving are two sons, Bert of Monticello and Merle of Olin, and a daughter, Theo, Mrs. Hans Ahrendsen of Oxford Junction, 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers, a son, J. H.. and a great grandson.
