DIED

In Monticello, Sept. 20th, 1870, MISS CARRIE E. CHANDLER, aged 40 years

The subject of this brief record has been a teacher in Anamosa for upwards of six years. Hundreds of people, during this time, have been under her influence and instruction, who will read with saddened feelings the record of her death. Mild and affectionate in her disposition, she secured the love of her pupils as few teachers do, while she won their confidence and thorough by her great faithfulness and decision of character.

Though she made no profession of religion yet her moral influence was always good upon her pupils, and for the last year of her life there is good reason to believe her influence was more than moral: it was Christian. From personal conversations with her, the writer of these lines have reasons to believe that her last year has been one of daily prayer and study to know her whole duty, and to conscientiously discharge it. Her attendance upon the ordinances of the gospel was constant. She seldom was away from the weekly prayer meeting or Sabbath service, and she was a much loved and earnest teacher in the Sabbath school. Her memory will be cherished by a large circle of friends and pupils. For more than twenty years she has devoted energies to the calling of a teacher, and goes to her rest, worn with faithful service.
