Funeral services were held for the Rev. Kurt E. Matschulat, 71, on Friday, November 5, 1976, at the McGinnis Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial was at Carrollton, Illinois.

Rev. Matschulat died November 2, 1976, at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

He was born on November 3, 1904 in Brazil, South America, the son of Wilhelm and Bertha Forhorme Matschulat, who were German missionaries. He came to the United States when he was seventeen years old and became a citizen in 1956.

In 1927 he married Eva Herring in Detroit, Michigan. He began his work in the church in 1929 at a church in Carrollton. In the following years, he served churches in Illinois and Missouri. He then became a missionary in South America and Canada. He taught at the Neosha Bible College in Neosha, Missouri. He was recently named "Teacher of the Year" for the work he had done there. As a teacher, he spoke several languages.

Rev. and Mrs. Matschulat moved to Oxford Junction in 1965. Here he had assisted the pastors of the Assembly of God Church and taught the adult class.

He is survived by his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Roberta) Thompson, Louisville, Kentucky, Mrs. Arthur (Wilma) Kelly, O'Fallon, Missouri, Mrs. Robert (Esther) Jeffrey, Dixon, Mrs. Ronald (Lois) Ams, Collinsville, Illinois, Mrs. Jack (Naomi) Moody, Percy, Illinois and Mrs. Timothy (Meta) Hume, Charleston, Illinois; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
