Thomas Meade, 88, Stone City, died Saturday March 23, 2019 in Coralville. Thomas was born July 4, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, to Clement and Hattie (Ockenfels) Meade. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil being held at 4:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday March 28, 2019 at St Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Springville, Iowa. Family will meet guests one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Thomas is survived by his children, Patrick (Dawn McElmeel) Meade, Renee (James) Trotter, and Michelle (Randel) Dopp; grandchildren, Adam Trotter, Danielle Trotter, Nathan Dopp, and Olivia Dopp; and brother Lorin (Rosemary) Meade. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margarete, and son Steve.

Thomas was a graduate of Franklin High School. He then served in the US Army from 1952 until 1954 in the Korean Conflict. During his service he tested missiles for the military. After his service was completed, he obtained both his Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degree from the University of Iowa. Thomas was united in marriage to Margarete Hartelt on September 17, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Thomas was a teacher at Roosevelt High School, in Cedar Rapids, eventually becoming a professor/counselor at Kirkwood Community College.

Thomas was very involved with St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, wine making, and had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed his daily walks up until he became ill. Thomas was a humanitarian, giving of himself and to his favorite charities.
