page 5Anamosa, Ia., Jan. 29--The death of J. F. Brown occurred Sunday at his home in Anamosa, the result of a third paralytic stroke. Mr. Brown was born in Crieff, Scotland, in 1842. He came to America in 1868 and engaged in the business of engineer on tugboats for several years in Chicago. In 1878 he married Mrs. Janet Livingston and engaged in farming near Center Junction, Iowa. For a short time he was a partner of C. H. Klenze in the grocery business here, but went back to the farm, where he lived 15 years before locating permanently in Anamosa. Mr. Brown was the father of three sons, all of whom are dead, and his wife died in 1909. Mr. Brown had three half-brothers, two of whom are living and six half-sisters, four of whom survive him. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Brown has made his home with his three step-daughters. The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday in charge of the K. of P. and I.O.O.F. lodges, of which Mr. Brown was a member. Rev. Evans preached the sermon. The burial was at the Four-Horn church cemetery in Wayne township.
