Mr. Lawrence A. Simpson died at his home in Hale township, Jones county, last Saturday, aged 81 years, 4 months and 18 days. Mr. Simpson came to Jones county and settled at his late home in the fall of 1838, just 51 years ago. He leaves one daughter also three brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss, I. H., aged 83, M. Q., aged 79; M. F., aged 71, Mrs. Esther Starry, aged 75, and Mrs. Harriet Garrison, aged 69. His remains were interred at "Negro Point" September 2d, 1889. Religious services were conducted by Rev. James M. Rees, of Oxford Junction.
