Anamosa, Iowa, Feb. 5--The death of Melachi Gavin occurred very suddenly Thursday evening. Mr. Gavin had been in poor health for several years, but at this time was not considered to be worse than usual. For many years Mr. Gavin was the leading shoe merchant of Anamosa, ill health causing his retirement from business. Mr. Gavin was greatly respected by all the community in which he has lived so long. He is survived by his wife, two sons, John E. of Lincoln, Nebraska, and James, four daughters, Mrs. T. C. Gorman of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Patten, Misses Julia and Catherine of Anamosa.
