Phillip Eichhorn, 75, died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. Per his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the Lake City Union Church in Lake City with Pastor Randy Russom officiating.

Phillip John Eichhorn, son of John Henry and Margaret Olive (Deischer) Eichhorn, was born on Nov. 26, 1943, in Monticello. Phil graduated from Midland High School in Wyoming in 1961 and from Iowa State University in 1965. After graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force. He separated from the Air Force as a captain in 1971.

Phil married Carol Ann Hobart on Oct. 8, 1966. To this union were born three sons, Christopher Sloan, Jeffrey Hobart and Jonathan Edwin. His second son, Jeffrey passed away at 22 months after a long illness. His first wife, Carol passed away on March 4, 1987. He later married Carol J. Hucka on Aug. 19, 1989.

Phil joined Hobart Brothers Seed Company and eventually assumed ownership. Phil served as a 4-H leader, Opportunity Living board member, school board member and Stewart Memorial

Community Hospital board member for eight years, including four years as board chairman. In 2012, he and his sons sold the acreage, then he and Carol purchased a town house and moved to town. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011. The main joy in his life was his grandchildren.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey; first wife, Carol Ann; stepson, Steve; and brother, Pete.

He is survived by his wife. Carol Jean; sons, Christopher (Erin) of Williamsburg and Jonathan (Detra) of Madisonville, Ky.; granddaughters, Katie, Grace, Kendra and Abby; and grandsons, John Thomas and Jacob, stepsons Rick (Denise) and Scott (Joanie); five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois (Tim) of Kenosha, Wis., and Patricia of Colorado; brothers, Jim of Wyoming and Doug (Valerie) of Coralville; sister-in-law, Jade of Wyoming; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be left for Stewart Memorial Community Hospital or Opportunity Living.
