Katherine Eliza Paulsen was born in Hattstedt-Marsch, Germany , March 14, 1833. She was married Oct 12, 1959, to Andrew Ahrendsen . In 1893 Mr. and Mrs. Ahrendsen came to America and settled in Madison Center, Jones County, Iowa. Of their six children, one, a daughter died in Germany, three sons remained in the old country, one son Julius, lives in Buel, Idaho, and a daughter, Mrs. Emma Kruse* lives near Olin, Iowa. Mrs. Ahrendsen had been in failing health since March 14th, 1907, when she suffered a stroke of paralysis. Since the death of her husband, which occurred February 6th of this year, she has been confined to her bed and has declined rapidly. She has been patiently and tenderly cared for by her granddaughter, Mrs. Wm. Grimm, who was much like a daughter, as she was reared by her grandmother, her own mother having died when the child was but three months old. The last week of her life she often heard muttering prayer. Mrs. Anrendsen was confirmed in the Lutheran Church when fourteen years of age and affiliated with the Wyoming, Iowa church after coming to America. She departed this life Friday, June 25th, at 6 o’clock, aged 76 years, three months and eleven days.

In the absence of her own pastor, Rev. H. E. Wilcox, of the Wyoming Methodist Episcopal Church conducted the religious services at her late home and at the grave in our beautiful cemetery where the body was laid beside that of her beloved husband to await the call of “The Great Day.”

*The name appears to be "Kruse" but a blue box is obscuring the name.
