A celebration of life service for Janet L. Vacek, 73, Wyoming, was held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming, with burial in the Wyoming cemetery.

Mrs. Vacek died Sept. 14 at her home, surrounded by family and friends.

The daughter of Charles and Irene Newswander Hurt, she was born April 22, 1940 in Anamosa. She married Robert Vacek on July 25, 1959 in Maquoketa.

Mrs. Vacek worked for Wilson's Meat Packing plant in Cedar Rapids for 23 years. She also worked at the Clarence Nursing Home and for Eastern Iowa Visiting Nurses.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wyoming.

Mrs. Vacek was an avid reader and loved to attend her grandchildren's activities. She had a great love for family and friends.

She is survived by her husband; 3 children, Rodney Vacek, Wyoming; Rhonda (Mark) Bickford, Anamosa; and Renee (Gary) Leonard, Center Junction; 3 grandchildren, Dylan Bickford, Shelby Leonard and fiance Derek Denniston, and Ryan Leonard; 2 sisters, Joyce (Joe) Weaver, Ozark, Ala.; and Judy; a brother, Chuck (Georgine) Hurt, Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Pat Lyon, Wyoming; and special friends, Casey (Jackie) Huston, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
