Funeral services were held at Forest chapel for Mrs. Leander Shoop life-time resident of Jones county, who died at the age of 78.

The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ira Bates, she was born in Rome township, Jones county, Oct. 26, 1852. She became a teacher at Highland Grove and in 1878 was married to Leander Shoop who died five years ago. They lived for forty years on their farm one mile south of Forest Chapel. Eight children survive as follows: Mrs. Earl Peet, Martelle; George E., Cassius L., Raliegh L. Shoop and Mrs. Albert Johnson of Anamosa; Mrs. Lowell D. Kohl, Martelle; Mrs. Perry L. Russell, Mechanicsville, and Mrs. Merle C. Green of Scottsbluff, Neb.
