WYOMING - MAY 18, 1926

James A. Day was born in New York state January 1, 1839 and died in Wyoming, Iowa, May 7, 1926. He came to Iowa in 1855 and located in Madison township about six miles from Wyoming. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Stevenson, November 12, 1859 and continued the occupation of farming during his active life. Mrs. Day died in 1907. Two children, a son and a daughter, Julian A. Day of Wyoming and Mrs. Jennie McDonald of Washta, survive him. Also four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Two sons, William L and Frederick H. died in infancy.

Of Mr. Day we can say he was a man of sterling character and a faithful and consistent member of the church. For about fifteen years Mr. Day had been spending his winters in Florida and felt that much benefit came from the practice. But when the machinery of the body is worn out a change of climate will not restore the parts to their original vigor and strength he seemed as well as usual during the winter and would sometimes voice his optimistic hope that he would return for another season in that salubrious clime. But his return from Florida last Thursday was in weakness and pain too great for resistance, and the following day "The weary wheels of life stood still" and the "spirit returned to God who gave it."

Funeral services were conducted from the home of his son by his pastor, Rev Joseph Yates, assisted by Rev. L.L. Lockhard of Anamosa, a former pastor and boyhood friend of the deceased, Sunday afternoon, May 9, with interment in the Wyoming cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald of Washta, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dick and daughter of Webster, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Day and daughters of Cedar Rapids were in attendance at the services.
