Mary Willa Carnal was born on March 4, 1939 in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of E. Richard and Helen (Rugg) Carnal. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1957 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. She married John Byers on June 3, 1959 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, John Byers, of Marion; Her children, Joel Evan (Khue) Byers, of Terrill, Texas, Marilyn “Mimi” Lake, of Wyoming, and Mary “Beth” (Darren) Janssen, of Ackley; 6 grandchildren, Canyon, Dylan & Carson Lake, Evan, Brent & Jay Janssen; her parents, Richard & Helen Carnal, of Marion and two sisters, Barbara (Bill) Clark, of St Charles, Missouri, and Bobbette Carnal, of Marion.

Mary Willa Byers, 69, of Marion, and formerly of Wyoming, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, John Byers, of Marion; Her children, Joel Evan (Khue) Byers, of Terrill, Texas, Marilyn “Mimi” Lake, of Wyoming, and Mary “Beth” (Darren) Janssen, of Ackley; 6 grandchildren, Canyon, Dylan & Carson Lake, Evan, Brent & Jay Janssen; her parents, Richard & Helen Carnal, of Marion and two sisters, Barbara (Bill) Clark, of St Charles, Missouri, and Bobbette Carnal, of Marion.
Burial: Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa
