James J. Covington, 65 of Monticello, died Monday, March 24, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a lengthy illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, by the Rev. Donald Schmitt. Burial will be at a later date in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Saundra; two sons, Michael of Monticello and Preston of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Debra Nefler of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his mother, Laura Thuman of Cascade; his stepfather, Louis Thuman of Scotch Grove; two brothers, Richard of Monticello and William of Mountain View, Mo.; and a sister, Diane LeClere of Prairieburg.
