DIED
At Monticello, December 24th, of disease of the liver (terminating in dropsy), PORTER H. BABCOCK, aged 49 years and 5 months.

The deceased was brother to Sheriff Babcock of this city. He had been in poor health for about a year and was confined to his bed ten weeks. Having served three years in a New York regiment, at the close of the war he removed to Monticello, where his two daughters were living with their father and mother and who resides there now. The deceased was Wersphlp--l? Master of Burns Lodge No. 173, A. F. & A. M., and was buried by the order. Robert Dott, of Anamosa, officiating. Some twenty members were present, among them a good number of this city. Mr. Babcock was a good citizen, a true friend and universally respected by all who knew him.
