DIED

At the residence of Elisha Dodge, in Cass Tp., Jones Co., on the 3d day of Aug., of inflammation of the bowels, ALBERT BARKER, aged 13 years. He was a grandson of E. Dodge, and his father having been dead many years, he lived with his grandfather.

He leaves his mother and grandparents to mourn his loss, which they feel very deeply; but they mourn not as those who have no hope. About three years ago he professed hope in Christ, and united with the Baptist Church, of which he remained an acceptable member until the Good Shepherd called him to the church above by a consistent walk and godly conversations he gave evidence of his genuineness of his profession. He was a very earnest student at school, a promising youth and greatly beloved by those who are left to mourn.

The youth, especially of his own vicinity, have had in their insurmountable providence, a solemn warning to be prepared to meet their God; an also an example of youthful piety worthy of imitation.

The funeral sermon was preached by the writer, in the Congregational Church in Cass, to a large and solemn congregation, from the words “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” 2 Samuel-12:23

Thus closed the earthly career of this youth. Truly God’s ways are not our ways. “Be therefore also ready, for in such an hour as ye think, not death cometh.”
