Two Year Old Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Biggart of Martelle Falls In Cistern
The visit of Mrs. C.C. Biggart, the the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Robertson, had a very sad ending Friday morning, when her two-year-old daughter was found drowned in a cistern.
Mrs. Biggart was helping prepare the noon-day meal for threshers at the Robertson home, about three miles northwest of Marion, and a short time before finding the lifeless body of the little one, had given her a piece of bread and butter, and she had started around the house. But when the baby was missed and a search made, a loose board, which had been lifted up from the cistern, gave a clew[sic] as to what might have happened. When one of the men descended into the cistern, their worst fears were realized, for the little body was found.
The Biggarts reside at Martelle, and Friday evening the sad journey back home was made. Sunday afternoon the funeral services were held and a host of sorrowing friends attended, expressing their silent sympathy for the bereaved family. Two children, older and one younger that little Lucile survive.
