FROM WYOMING

Wyoming, Aug. 22, 1876

EDITORS EUREKA – A dark cloud of gloom settled over the community last evening by the announcement of the accidental death of Charles H. Leffingwell.

The deceased, in company with two young men from Lyons, left town between three and four o’clock for a hunt. When some three miles south of this on the farm of Mr. Eldred, while in the act of drawing the rod of his gun for the purpose of whipping his dog, his gun discharged, the charge passed through his neck, killing him instantly. His body was brought to town and Coroner Birdsell being here held an inquest. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the facts as above stated.

Mr. Leffingwell, (son of Judge Wm. E. Leffingwell), had been a resident of this place for three years. He was a quiet, unobtrusive man, and had gained the good will of all who knew hum. There is scarcely a person in the community but feels that in the death of Mr. Leffingwell is personally affected. He leaves a wife and three children.

The relatives of the deceased are expected here today. His body will soon be laid away, and his stricken wife will enter upon the dark, gloomy, companionless journey of widowhood, with little to make life desirable, saved the memory of bereaved hopes and the wants of her children.
