MRS. PATRICK ENGLISH

Mrs. Patrick English, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Jones county, died at her home in Clay township last Friday evening, January 12th. She was 81 years old and had lived in that neighborhood for many years.

Mrs. English is survived by the following children: Mrs. Michael Kinsella, Mrs., Charles Leonard, Mrs. Daniel Lambe, Miss Mary and Michael, Thomas and John English.

The funeral services were held at St. Peter's church, Temple Hill, on Monday morning and were conducted by the Rev. A. J. Walshe, of South Garryowen. The casket was borne by Thomas Lambe, James McManus, James Kinsella, Nicholas Koppes, William Kennedy, Michael Supple, Thomas Moran and Frank McLaughlin.

Mrs. Patrick English

The many friends of Mrs. Patrick English were sorrowfully surprised to learn of her death, which occurred at the family residence Friday, January 12th. Although not very rugged for some time, hopes were entertained for her recovery, but she grew weaker and at the golden sunset her spirit winged its flight to her Creator, whom she loved and served so faithfully during life.

Mrs. English was born in Ireland in November 1842 and when a young girl, came with her parents to this country, and settled in Camillus, N. Y. Her maiden name was Bridget Cummings. In 1867 she was united in marriage to Patrick English. Two years later they came to Iowa, settling on the farm, where they resided, until the death of Mr. English on February 19, 1896.

Mrs. English was a noble Christian woman, a consistent Catholic and a devoted member of St. Peter's church and died fortified by the rites of the Catholic church, surrounded by her loved ones. She was beloved by her family and highly regarded by all that knew her. Her death is sincerely mourned by the entire community.

She leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother the following children: Mrs. Michael Kinsella, Miss Mary, Mrs. Chas. Leonard, Mrs. Daniel Lambe, Michael, Thomas and John.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful, which bespoke the high esteem in which Mrs. English was held not only be her immediate relatives but by her neighbors and friends.
The funeral services were held on the following Monday morning at St. Peter's church at ten o'clock, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. A. J. Walshe.

The pall bearers were Frank McLaughlin, James McManus, Thomas Lambe, Nic Koppes, Mike Supple, James Kennedy, Thomas Moran, James Kinsella.
