Funeral services for Claus Sievers, 91, who died Sunday, June 10, at his home near Anamosa, were held Wednesday afternoon, June 13, at the Smykil funeral home in Anamosa. Rev. H. L. Buesing of St. Paul's American Lutheran church, was the officiating minister. Burial was at the Antiock cemetery.

Claus Sievers, youngest son of Hans and Anna Buens Sievers, was born at Rensburg, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, Feb. 6, 1854. In his youth he attended the state school of religion and was confirmed at the age of 14.

July 4, 1879, he left the land of his birth and immigrated alone to the land of his choice, America, settling in Cedar county, finding employment on a farm for several years.

Dec. 14, 1882, he entered into marriage with Maria Griebel. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary more than 12 years ago. On March 1, 1888, they moved to Jones county which has been their home for more than 57 years.

Nine children, seven sons and two daughters, were born to this union, all of whom survive.

Mr. Sieves was the first of the family to die. He was never bedfast or seriously ill and his health did not decline until February of this year.

Surviving are his wife, Maria; seven sons, Henry of Olin, Harry of Stanwood, Peter of Wyoming, Wm. of Mechanicsville, Grover of Des Moines, Hans of Wilton Jct., Max of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Anna, Mrs. Frank Reside of Waterloo, Katherine, Mrs. Leighton Forman of Albion, Neb.; 33 grandchildren of whom 13 are in the armed forces; 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Grandsons of Mr. Sievers, who were pallbearers, were Kenneth Reside, Arthur Sherman, John Sievers, Melvin Sievers, Chauncey Reside, Laverne Sievers.

Mrs. Melvin Sievers, Mrs. John Sievers, Norma Sievers and Mrs. Clarence Allamand were in charge of the flowers.
