Rudolph Christian Dethmann, the son of Claus and Anna Frahm Dethmann, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, December 16, 1873, and passed away following a lingering illness, at his home in Jones County, Iowa, on September 20, 1954.

He received his education in rural schools in Clinton County and Clinton Business College.

He followed the carpentry trade as a young man at Dennison, Iowa and in Jones County.

He was in business in Hale, Iowa for five years. In 1913 he moved his family to the farm home where they have lived for almost forty years.

He was a member of Mount Hope Lodge No. 501 A.F.& A.M. at Clarence, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his widow; four sons, Oscar, Arnold, Marvin and Herman; one daughter, Viola, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Thiessen of Charlotte, Iowa; and other relatives.

Services were held Thursday, September 23rd, 1954, with a prayer service at the family home at 1 p.m. followed by a service at the Campbell Funeral Home in Olin at 1:30 with Rev. Lloyd Dutro in charge. Lois Fisher, Alta Cashman and Lois Ruether were in charge of the floral offerings.

Casket bearers were Vertus Lorenzen, Carl Levsen, Louis Levsen, Arthur Dethmann, Clarence Thiessen and Alfred Schoening.

Interment was in the Olin Cemetery.
