Funeral services for Emil "Desperate" Koranda, 77, Oxford Junction, were held July 29, 1988 in the United Methodist church in Oxford Junction, with burial in Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction. Military rites were conducted by the Wapsi Legion Post of Oxford Junction.

Mr. Koranda died July 26 at St. Luke's hospital in Davenport, where he had been a patient for 2 1/2 weeks.

The son of Edd and Julia Beranek Koranda, he was born Sept. 10, 1910. He graduated from Oxford Junction high school and entered the US Army in 1941. He was discharged in 1945, after being held as a prisoner of war for 26 months. He earned 3 bronze stars while in the service.

He married Hazel Sennett Sept. 15, 1945 in Lowden and purchased the Standard Station in Oxford Junction in 1945, operating it until his death.

Mr. Koranda was a member of the United Methodist church, the American Legion and the Oxford Junction fire department for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marianne Thies, Jefferson City, Mo.; a son, Paul, San Diego, Calif.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Leroy (Frances) Pahl and Velma Burbower, both of Davenport; a brother, Gilbert, De Land, Fla. and 2 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
