Maggie Belle Ireland Mitchell (1854-1908)

Maggie Belle Ireland was born in Rome township, Jones County, Iowa, August 5, 1854, and died in Olin, Jones County, Iowa, January 20, 1908, aged 53 years, 5 months and 15 days.

She united with the Free Will Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill, in Hale township, in the year 1870, under the labors of O.E. Aldrich, in which faith she remained steadfast until the end of her life's journey. She was also a member of the Woman's Missionary Society of the same church.

She was united in [marriage] with Lewis H. Mitchell on [August 21/7], 1871. To this union was born five children--Clarence F., Owen W., Frank N., Claud G. [E.], and Lily Belle, Claud having preceded his mother to the great beyond. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, three sons a one daughter, two full sisters--Mrs. H. E. Dewell, of Clarence, Iowa; and Mrs. J. L. Baugh, of Washta, Iowa; one full brother, J. W. Ireland [buried in Olin Cemetery and a witness at her wedding], of Olin; two half brothers, William of Wyoming; Frank of Anamosa, three half sisters, Mrs. Joseph Glenn, and Mrs. Jabez Starry of Olin, and Mrs. Russell, of California.
Mrs. Mitchell was taken sick last August, and has been a great sufferer. She bore her suffering with great fortitude, and when her last trial came, she was well prepared. A few days before her departure she called her sons to her bedside and kissed them goodbye, and said, "Be good boys."

She was a good true wife, and a kind and loving mother, and as a neighbor she was ever respected.

The funeral services were held in the Christian church on Wednesday, at 2 o'clock p.m. Conducted by Rev. Piersol, of Pleasant Hill, assisted by Elder Nathan Potter. A large congregation of relatives and sympathizing friends were present to show their respect for the departed the internment was made in the Olin Cemetery.

The choir was composed of Mrs. Grace Pinkerton, and E [?] Scott and Messers. Dennis B [?] and A. A. Cole, with Mrs. [?] Macomber at the organ.
