Edward Johnson Lightfoot
Pioneer Resident of Monticello, Dies

MONTICELLO—Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday for Edward Johnson Lightfoot, 82, pioneer resident of this community who died Sunday following a long illness. Mr. Lightfoot was born in Scotch Grove, April 7, 1853, son of John and Isobel Overly Lightfoot who came to Iowa in a covered wagon from Virginia. He was one of a family of eleven children. He attended the rural school in Scotch Grove. Mr. Lightfoot had always lived in the vicinity of Monticello where he was a builder and contractor.

In 1874 he was married to Miss Lois Bennett of Monticello. She died in August 1899. On July 2, 1900 he was married to Miss Maude Hosford of Monticello, who survives him. He is also survived by four children: Edwin W. Lightfoot, Mrs M. G. Alcorn and Mona M. Lightfoot of Vinton, and Fern Lightfoot at home; one brother Emerson Lightfoot of Oakland, Calif. and one nephew, C. O. Lightfoot of Onslow. Funeral services were in charge of the Rev. William Grossheim, pastor of the Presbyterian church and the burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
