Bernice Kettleson, the three year old daughter of John Kettleson of Anamosa, was killed at that place last Sunday. The child stepped in front of an automobile driven by George Siebels, which was traveling slowly at the time. She was attempting to cross the street and in doing so, passed behind an automobile which was standing still at the side of the road and which obstructed her view of the street. As she appeared from behind the stationary car the Siebels car came immediately upon her, but could not be stopped in time to avoid hitting the little girl. She was hit by the fender and thrown to the ground. The front wheel of the car passed over the body below the waist, crushing the ribs and lungs. The child was immediately rushed to a doctor, but she was injured beyond hope of recovery, and died two hours after the accident. She had been living with her grandmother, Mrs. Lena Englebarts, since the death of her mother, which occurred two years ago. Another little girl, a daughter of August Toenjes, was hit at the same time, but escaped with only some minor bruises. The funeral services of the little Kettlesen girl were held yesterday morning at ten o'clock at the Wayne Lutheran church, by Rev. J. Willms, the pastor of that church. Burial was had at the cemetery adjoining the church.
