Mrs. Carsten Ketelsen died at her home in Monticello, last Saturday (Dec. 10, 1921) afternoon at 5:10. Her death was caused by cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Ketelsen suffered a stroke of paralysis on Tuesday preceding her death, which was contributory of her demise.
The deceased was born in Hampshire Township, Clinton County, April 17, 1868, and was therefore 53 years, 7 months and 23 days of age at the time of her death. When she was three years of age, her mother died. She then made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Hans Holms, in Clinton County until she was 18 years of age, when she came to Jones County to live in 1887.
The deceased was married to Carsten Ketelsen at Lyons, Iowa on January 10, 1888. There were nine children born to this union, one of whom died in infancy, and two children. Henry and Laura died when two years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Ketelsen settled a farm in Castle Grove Township in February of 1888, where they lived for 1 year. Thereafter, they removed to a farm near Center Junction, where they lived for 25 years. In 1913, they removed to the Andrew Davidson farm, just west of Monticello, and last spring retired from active work on the farm, and purchased a home in Monticello.
Mrs. Ketelsen is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Pete Johannsen of Wyoming, Mrs. Floyd Shew of Ames, and Catherine and Ida who live at home. She is also survived by two sons, John of Center Junction and William who lives at home. Funeral services were held at the Ketelsen home, last Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 13th). They were conducted by Rev. Leonard Duckett, the pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Internment was had at North Madison cemetery near Center Junction.
