November 18, 1913–February 21, 2011Anna B. Marek-Knake, 97, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, February 25, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction with the Rev. Greg Steckel officiating. Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, where a rosary was said at 7:00 p.m. Burial was in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, Iowa.
Anna Bessie Marek was born near the town of Wyoming, Iowa, on November 18, 1913 to Vit and Bessie (Vasata) Marek. She attended rural schools and Oxford Junction High School. She married John Edward Knake on December 9, 1944 at Sacred Heart Church in Oxford Junction, Iowa., while he was in the service.
After his discharge from the service, they lived on a farm near Oxford Junction until they retired in 1974 and moved into Oxford Junction. Edward died in April 1986.
Anna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction, and its church circle. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Card Club, and the Senior Over 60 Club. Anna enjoyed gardening, playing cards and bingo.
She is survived by three children, Carmen (Tom) Blood of Dewey, Arizona, Beverly (John) Hepburn of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Regina (Kent) Othberg of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Scott Blood of Oregon, Wisconsin and Susan (Robert) Johnson of Peoria, Arizona; one great-grandson, Ethan Johnson of Peoria, Arizona; one sister, Lydia Yarolem of Maquoketa; nephews Ronald (Sue) Yarolem of Davenport and Arlo Yarolem of Maquoketa; nieces Vivian (Ernest) Redmond of Davenport and Rosemary (Roger) Dreismeier of Springville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, one brother, James, and a brother and sister in infancy.
