October 11, 1906–January 27, 1984Services were held January 30 for Andrew Tobiassen, 77, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, with burial at the church cemetery. The Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson officiated at the services.
Mr. Tobiasson died suddenly at his residence in Monticello on January 27.Andrew Tobiassen was born October 11, 1906, in Wayne Township, Jones County, the son of Rhinehart and Anna (Schoon) Tobiassen. He received his early education in the rural schools of Wayne Township. He later attended German School at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church where he was studying for ministry. After the death of his father, he had to abandon his schooling and started a Ford automobile dealership with his brother in Anamosa in 1925, and operated it until 1929.
Andrew Tobiassen and Marguerite Postel were married October 25, 1930, in Cedar Rapids. The couple made their home in Anamosa where he operated a trucking business. Mr. Tobiassen became associated with Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, and worked for the company on projects in several eastern states, one of these was the building of Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D. C.
In 1943 they returned to the Anamosa area and Mr. Tobiassen continued working for Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. Prior to his retirement in 1970 the couple moved to Monticello in 1967.
He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, the Monticello Lions Club and was the director of the Monticello Ambulance Service.
Mr. Tobiassen is survived by a daughter, Ann Ketelsen of Monticello; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Tobiassen of Stillwater, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife who died July 28, 1962, his parents and two brothers.
Honorary bearers were: Delbert Wheeler, Robert Lincoln, Stanley Morning, John Godar, Keith Postel and Kent Heiken. Casketbearers were Ron Postel, Harold Postel, Tom Postel, Milton Postel, George Postel and Michael Tobiassen.
