Alta Latare Brinkman
August 2, 1936–February 18, 2009Alta L. Brinkman, 72, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness.
A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oxford Junction, with Pastor Carol Mart officiating. Burial was in the Massillon Cemetery, Massillon, Iowa. Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction.
Alta was born on August 2, 1936 in Jones County, Iowa, daughter of Jens and Freida (Petersen) Latare. She graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1954. She married Ronald Brinkman on September 9, 1955 in Wyoming, Iowa.
They made their home in Oxford Junction, where she worked at Coon's Corner Grocery for many years. They moved to Independence, Iowa, in 1985, where she worked at Paradise Donuts. After retirement they returned to Oxford Junction. She loved spending time with her family.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and the Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Brinkman of Oxford Junction; two sons, Jeff Brinkman of Oxford Junction and Steve (Kay) Brinkman of Ripley, Tennessee; two daughters, Roxann (Ron) Vacek of Oxford Junction and Lisa (Tim) Wirth of Lost Nation; six grandchildren, Joy (Brent) Leeper, Lyndon Vacek, Michael Leonard, Hunter Brinkman, Lucas Brinkman, and Cole Wirth; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Leeper and Sarah Leeper; one great great-grandchild, Braidon Graft; and two brothers, Merlin (Audrey) Latare and Melvin (Sharon) Latare, both of Oxford Junction.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Norman Latare, and one granddaughter, Jana.
