BART MCCONAUGHY A VICTIM OF STROKE OF APOPLEXY

Bart E. McConaughy was born in the year 1863 near Martelle, Jones County, Iowa. His parents were Thomas E. and Catherine McConaughy. Bart was the younest son of three children, the others being Isaac, who died in 1894 and Lydia J. Smith, who survives and resides in Cardington, Ohio.

Deceased was bereft of parents early in life. His father was called by death in 1867 and his mother died three years later. Bart resided with relatives in Ohio, the native state of his parents. At age 14 he returned to Iowa and became interested in railroading. He became a telegraph operator for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway and was in that capacity at his death after thirty years of service. He served as agent in Elwood, Wyoming and Lost Nation.

On March 21, 1893 he was married to Lousetta Wade at Lost Nation. The union was blessed with two children, Elsie and Salem, both of who with Mrs. McConaughy, survive. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Cleveland of the M. E. Church, with burial in the Lost Nation Cemetery.
