The Anamosa Eureka, Anamosa, Iowa, Friday,
November 30th, 1860

Thomas Green, Phil Norton, J. DeWitt, David Sherrill, Milton Briggs, and Mr. Little, members of the “Jones County Horse Protection Society,” were arrested and brought before Justice Dickinson last Monday, on the complaint of H. A. Fay, for extorting from him a confession that he was the person that set fire to David Sherrill’s barn. Milton Briggs demanded a separate trial, which was granted. The others were held to bail to appear at the next term of the District Court. They refused to give bail, and were taken before Judge Holmes on a writ of habeas corpus, and he discharges them all, because of an informality in the information. Mr. Briggs was then discharged by the Justice.
