Dow Douglas Voss was born November 19, 1940, in Iowa City the son of Francis L. and Mildred L. (Dow) Voss. The couple made their home in Iowa City where they raised their two sons, and Dow worked as a Union Electrician with IBEW Local 405, retiring after 40 years of employment.

He enjoyed many interests in his lifetime, such as being an avid shooter, starting in his youth through his days at City High School on the shooting range and into college where he met Barbara. This turned into a lifelong enjoyment which blended itself into building muzzleloaders using his shooting skills and woodworking skills to craft some very beautiful functional rifles and other projects. He was a member of the Southeastern Iowa Sportsman’s Society, the Iowa Black Powder Federation and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. Dow also enjoyed reading, especially labor and Native American history and culture. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing with Barbara.

His family includes his wife, Barbara; sons: Andy and his wife, Kate and their children, Russell (fiancée-Brie), William, Rachel, and great-granddaughter, Rosalie; second son, Dan and his wife, Dori and their children, Matt (Andrea) and great-grandson Zachary, Katie (Alex Triska) and great-grandsons Luke and Nathan, Sarah Voss, Leah (Spenser Burden), and Ethan Datwyler; and brother Richard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
