Don was born August 6, 1942, in Iowa City the son of Harold R. and E. Berniece (Douglass) Westcott. He attended Iowa City Schools, graduating from Iowa City City High School in 1960. While in high school he was active in sports, excelling in wrestling, becoming the first State Champion Wrestler from City High School. Following school, he enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and had been in the reserves for a number of years. On October 2, 1965, he married Judith Ann Nemec in Fairfax, Iowa. The couple have made their home on the Iowa - Johnson County line for nearly all their married lives. Don has been involved in the agricultural field most of his life, and the past couple of years has worked at Fast Stop in Williamsburg.

Don refereed for the Iowa State Athletic Association in both football and wrestling for many years, played in the Williamsburg Softball League, bowled in many area-bowling leagues over the years, an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially the football and wrestling programs. And of course, he was a Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. Don was a member of the Iowea City Lodge #44 of IOOF. He loved the outdoors, his garden was his haven, where he grew his roses (something about his love for roses). Many knew Don as the traveling farmers market, sharing the fruits of his labors with many. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends in the area and up north in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Don was always up for a trip to the casino or the boat, enjoyed playing cards, and was always willing to share a good joke or pull a prank on some unsuspecting friend or family member. Don’s grandchidlren will cherish the memories of their grandfather. He so loved his family and friends.

His family includes his wife, Judy; sons, Scott and his wife, Angie Westcott of Williamsburg, Mike and his wife, Kimberly Westcott of Iowa City, Steve and his wife, Stacy Westcott of Holmen, Wisconsin, and Mark Westcott of Williamsburg; daughter, Angela Westcott of Ames; nine grandchildren, Derrick, Devin, MacKenzie, Nicholas, Hannah, Abigail, Matthew, Jack and Dylan; sister and her husband, Betty and William Stone of Davenport.
