Frank Lee Pierce, age 64 of 2801 Highway 6 East, #18, Iowa City died Monday, August 28, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a courageous battle with cancer.

A time for remembering Frank’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 30th. from 4 to 7pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Frank’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Frank Lee Pierce was born December 31, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Frank H. and Helen (Spivey) Pierce. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School in1960 he enlisted with the United States Marines serving during the Vietnam War. Frank returned to this area where he has worked as a Police Officer with the Coralville Police Department, worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring as an EKG Technician. He later drove tour bus for Windstar Tours, and before his health forced him to retire, he drove school bus for the special needs children with First Student.

Frank was united in marriage to Tonya Lee Sweeting Garcia on March 10, 2002, in the Chapel of the Veterans Hospital where they both have worked. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and touring the country with Tonya on their Honda Gold Wing.

Frank’s family includes his wife, Tonya; three sons, Robert John Pierce, Randy Lee Pierce, and Ricky Dean Pierce and Lori all of Washington, IA; step-daughter, Shameena Garcia of Iowa City; his mother, Helen Pierce of Iowa City; brother, Robert Pierce and his wife, Connie of Iowa City; sisters, Janet Stockman and her husband, Bill of Oxford and Joan Alberhasky and her husband, Tim of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Frank’s family and his services.
