Carol M. Kondora, 72, of 1430 Glendale Road died peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family following a long battle with breast cancer.
Funeral Services to celebrate Carol’s life will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 11am at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Karl Divine Koch officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Hall. Committal Services will be held Thursday at 3pm at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation.
Carol was born January 4, 1934 in Iowa City, the daughter of Ray “Mick” and Minnie Fuhrmeister Potter. She was a graduate of City High School and on February 14, 1953 she married George Kondora at the First English Lutheran Church in Iowa City. They would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary on Valentines Day.
Carol and her husband owned Geo.Kondora Plumbing and Heating, where she was the bookkeeper for many years.
Carol was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Stretch and Tone Exercise Group at Mercy Hospital. Carol cherished her family, her friends, and making her home a warm and welcoming refuge for all that entered. Carol liked to play bridge, cook and bake special recipes, travel and decorate her home. She will be greatly missed by all those who came to know her gentle and caring spirit.
Carol is survived by her loving husband George; her son Rick Kondora and Melody Strub; her grandson Nate Kondora of Iowa City; Melody’s son Travis Strub of Coralville; her brother Gary (Toni) Potter of Ormond Beach, Florida.
Carol has gone home to be reunited with her parents and daughter Lori.
