Charles “Chuck” B. Putnam, 83, formerly of 501 Whiting Avenue, died at Legacy Gardens Saturday, January 14, 2006 of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7:00pm, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm and a Vigil Service at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Chuck was born January 27, 1922 in Iowa City, the son of Wayne and Helen Seemuth Putnam. He was a graduate of City High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. He married Rita Shradel on January 8, 1944 in Seattle, Washington.

Chuck was co-owner of Putnam Welding Service in Iowa City for forty five years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Choir and Knights of Columbus Marquette Council #842.

Chuck was a true naturalist and a tireless teacher to his family. The mysteries of nature, great and small, continues to be explored in his memory. He also instilled the love of adventure and traveling- which has cost his offspring a pretty penny!.... with no regrets!!

Chuck enjoyed singing in a barbershop quartet and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Chuck had a great sense of humor and a touch of magic. His talent in metal work spilled over into the artistic world of metal sculpture, jewelry design and woodcarving. Though he will be missed, his spirit lives on in his family.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Rita; three children Thomas (Janet) Putnam of Boone, Iowa and their sons Scott and Randy, Susan (Michael) Manternach of Davenport and their children Matt (Lora) and Molly (Dan) Wares, Christopher (Vicky) Putnam of Iowa City; and their children Jessica and Zachary; one great grandson Kyler.

He was preceded by parents and one brother, Wayne Jr.
