Betty Morano, 99, of Iowa City, passed away on September 19, 2024 at Briarwood Health Care Center.

A visitation will be held from 1-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Betty was born on November 5, 1924 in Iowa City to Thomas and Alice (Langenberg) Butz. A child of the Great Depression, she attended elementary school in Cosgrove and graduated from Riverside High School. After graduation, she moved to Iowa City where she attended Brown Commercial College.

She met Paul Morano, Jr. at the Princess Café while he was sent to Iowa City by the United States Navy to set up a pre-flight school. The couple were married on June 12, 1943 in Riverside and to this union, seven children were born.

Betty was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center and Mercy Hospital as well as assisting with the city elections. Betty was an avid card player and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Betty is survived by her children: Judy (Ron) Baber, Walter Paul Morano (Joe Poteet), Terry (Bev) Morano, Peggy (Steve) Swindlehurst, Dave (Lynn) Morano, John Morano and Paul (Jayleen) Morano III; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Paul; one grandson, Russ Baber and her sister-in-law, Ann Morano.
