Constance L. “Connie” Walkup, age 69 of Swisher, lifetime resident of the Iowa City area died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, August 26, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the services on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Connie’s memory to Iowa City Hospice or Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County. Constance Lee Walkup was born June 25, 1955, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City the daughter of Gerald and Donna (Moss) Walkup. Attending Iowa City schools, she graduated from City High School with the Class of 1974. Shortly after graduation, she began a job at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in housekeeping that would span over 46 years before retiring. She was a hard worker, didn’t believe in calling in sick, or using her vacation days, she simply believed in a working hard for an honest wage. Connie loved her cats, having a few over the years. She also enjoyed traveling with her parents, especially to the Navy reunions from her father’s days serving in the United States Navy. Connie enjoyed doing crafts, going to yard sales and auctions, and spending time on the family dairy farm located in the northeast side of Iowa City. Connie was a simple lady, didn’t need much, but was always willing to give!
Her family includes two brothers, Robert Walkup and Dennis Walkup (Ronda Wilson); and numerous other extended family members and friends and of course her two furry babies, Missy and Sweety. She was preceded in death by her parents.
