Shirley Anne Peer, 72, of Iowa City passed away suddenly Sunday, July 14, 2024.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 1229 Shannon Drive, Iowa City, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Shirley Peer Memorial Fund.

Shirley was born on January 7, 1952 in Williamsburg, IA, the daughter of John and Virginia (Durr) Finnegan. She graduated from Williamsburg Community High School in 1970. Shirley was a cosmetologist for a few years before becoming a packaging clerk at ACT and NCS.

Shirley enjoyed puzzles and excelled at Yahtzee and Scrabble. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shirley was always thinking of others and had a huge heart. She loved classic comedy shows like “I Love Lucy”.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Jody Nemec of Cedar Rapids, Andrew Williams (Hilary) of Tiffin, and Melody Peer of North Liberty; mother, Virginia Dougherty of Cedar Rapids; sister, Sandy Ethridge of North Liberty; five grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, Allison, Alicia, and Shane; and many extended family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, John Finnegan; stepfather, Dr. Keith Dougherty; first husband, Anthony Peer; grandson, Noah Herring; and brother, Dave Finnegan.

Her light fades into sweet memories.
