Betty L. Fisher, 96, of Iowa City, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.

Betty Lee Bush was born on January 1, 1928, in LaCrosse, WI. She grew up in Algona, where she graduated from high school, and then moved to Iowa City to attend Iowa City Commercial College. She began her career in Waterloo, working in various accounting positions before moving back to Iowa City in 1969. There, she worked as a civilian in the Department of the Defense in the Army ROTC program at the University of Iowa for nearly 25 years until her retirement.

Known for her kind and loving personality, Betty was a wonderful conversationalist, often sharing words of wisdom and engaging stories from her rich life experiences. Her advice and insights were cherished by all who knew her, and she had a unique ability to make everyone feel heard and valued. Betty also had a passion for baking delicious cookies and was a dedicated fan of Iowa Hawkeyes sports.

Despite her advancing years, Betty lived independently in her two-story house in Iowa City until very recently, a testament to her resilience and strength.

Her family includes her children, Janis Eastman (Ronald), Jack Truelsen (Brenda), David Truelsen (Sandy), and Tammy Penny (Joseph); nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, and her biological half sister LaRene Carpenter. Also, beloved friends, and her neighbors Mark and Kim Capron and Pat Smith a volunteer at Trail.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: David Truelsen, Dan Fisher, and John Beard; her parents, Lee and Bessie (Staley) Bush; her brothers, Lynn Bush (Ayano), Bill Bush, and Herb Bush; niece, Kathryn Ballentine; and granddaughter, Michelle.
