Paul Upmeyer, 84
Paul W. Upmeyer, 84, of Solon, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 in the Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with the Reverend Dwight DuBois of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm today at the Chapel. Survivors include his daughter Anne (Roger) Upmeyer Beermann of Shanghai, China; sons Robert (Nancy) of Solon, Eric (Patti) of Vinton, and Carl (Rhonda) of Eldridge; brother William (Audrey) Upmeyer of Maquoketa; seven grandchildren and a cousin, Verne Upmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Dorthea and his wife Agnes, who died December 30, 1999. Paul was born October 12, 1921 in Solon, the son of Paul and Dorthea Bolte Upmeyer. He attended Big Grove Number Four School, graduated from Solon High School and attended Cedar Rapids Business College. Paul married Agnes Zubrod on September 18, 1951 in Cedar Rapids. Paul was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Solon School Board and bus driver for the Solon School District. He was a charter member and board member of the Solon Nursing Care Center. He served on numerous boards including the Solon Community Credit Union and Farm Home Administration. Paul was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the church council in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
