Frances “Fran” Wilmoth, 91, lifelong resident of the Iowa City area passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2024.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where a brief service will begin at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Fran’s family.

Fran was born on October 22, 1932 in Iowa City, Iowa to Ivan and Blanche (Vogt) Rummelhart. She grew up in Hills and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1950. She had a strong work ethic since she began her career in food service. She worked for the Hills School district, where she managed the Elementary Cafeteria for many years. Fran also worked at Burger King and was loved by all the customers who considered her the “burger king lady”. She even continued working after Burger King, working at Walmart for several years before officially retiring.

Fran loved gardening and anything and everything that had to do with Elvis. She was full of life until the end, learning how to ride a motorcycle and play the guitar in her 60’s. She had a sense of humor and you never knew what type of joke was going to be said, appropriate or not. If you knew Fran, you knew that she was fiercely independent, stubborn and headstrong.

Above all else, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart and joy. She was proud of all of them and was often heard bragging about them to anyone who would listen. Fran never put her needs before her loved ones, especially if it was her family. The bond she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a tight and special bond that no one could break and leaves them devastated.

She is survived by her daughter Jan (Kenny) Kane, 8 grandchildren Scott Hoff Jr., Mindy Duttlinger, Steven Hoff, Tallen (Leah) Wilmoth, Brianna Wilmoth, Amberlynn (Michael) O’Connor, Dakota Wilmoth and Nathan Arp, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Crissy Wilmoth, and sister Mary Ann Rummelhart.
