Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud- Maya Angelou

Donna Davis Rupp passed away on February 28th, 2024 at her home in Iowa City, IA where she was well loved by her Prairie Hill Co Housing community brothers and sisters and by her family.

Donna was born November 23, 1946 in Princeton, NJ the second of 5 children born to Fay and Grier Davis. Though born on the east coast, she lived all over the United States. She was a tapestry weaver, a woodworker, a teacher, gardener, mother and grandmother, sister, and friend.

Donna knew life because she loved many things, none more vigorously than her 5 grandchildren - Abbey Carter, Carson Rupp, Molly Malone, Maggie Malone, and Maci Malone. She loved her children Sam Rupp and Tara Bishop, Ben Rupp, Annie and Billy Malone, her sister Marilyn, and her brother John. She loved the Prairie Hill Community in Iowa City which she helped develop. She loved making her home in Iowa and New Mexico while enjoying adventures overseas in Europe and Africa. She enjoyed the arts and the sounds of Mozart.

Donna’s political and moral convictions were reflected in her speech and in her actions. She always spoke frankly and with kindness, understanding and compassion. She thrived on helping those who couldn’t help themselves and those who were less fortunate. Her actions instilled those same beliefs in everyone she touched. Her ability to empower others was unequaled. She was a gentle soul.

Donna asked us all to “imagine all the people living life in peace”. She was a dreamer and we will carry her dreams with us.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to Heifer International at https://www.heifer.org
