Mary Rita Hebl, 68, died peacefully on Friday, February 16, at UIHC.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter Foundation or Camp Courageous
Mary Rita was born September 4, 1955, in Iowa City, the daughter of Elmer and Mary Catherine Kasper Hebl. Mary Rita attended the Nelson Center and the University of Iowa Pine School. Mary was the youngest of ten children and was a lifelong resident of Johnson County.
She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Mary loved music, dancing, the Iowa State Fair, and horses. Saturday nights were reserved for Lawrence Welk. She was happy to see people and was always quick with a giggle.
Mary Rita is survived by her siblings, Ann Marie Draker of Hills, Doris (Robert) Swartzendruber of Iowa City, Lawrence “Larry” (Wendy) Hebl of Kalona, George (Jeanette) Hebl of Solon, and Michael “Mike” (Barbara) Hebl of Amana; sister-in-law, Sharon “Sherry” Hebl of West Branch; forty-three nieces and nephews, and extended family.
Mary Rita was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William, Bernard, Maynard, and Elmer “Ron,” and six nieces and nephews.
