Cathy Crosby, 74, of Iowa City, IA and formerly of Fremont, IA, passed away on February 14, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Palliative Care and Hospice Care.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.
Cathy was born on June 11, 1949 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Frank and Jeanne (Moore) Van Dyk. After graduating from Fremont High School, Cathy attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy in Ottumwa. Cathy was united in marriage to Boyd Crosby on June 6, 1970 at Fremont Methodist Church in Fremont. They began their life together in Iowa City where Cathy began her cosmetology career at Killian’s where she worked and built her clientele for six years. In 1976 she and her fellow co-worker and great friend, Roberta Dotson opened their own beauty salon, The Wavelength in Iowa City. After 10 years, Cathy decided it was time to spend more time at home to raise her daughter, Allison. She was also co-owner and bookkeeper for Boyd Crosby Construction Company for over 40 years.
Whether she was spending time with grandkids or her beloved cats (Puff, Pete, Valerie and Dixie) and dogs (Tiffany, Joey and Charlotte), Cathy’s biggest accomplishment was her family. Attending events, organizing schedules and tending to her home were all things she enjoyed doing and excelled.
Her greatest love and dedication was raising her daughter, Allison, and then to the love and care of her four granddaughters during their early years and then the lifelong joy of sharing time and experiences with the girls. She was very organized and was a straight shooter who you could always count on to tell it like it was. She was stern, yet fair. She was a very loving, patient, caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Cathy is survived and will be cherished by her husband, Boyd; daughter, Allison (Luke) DeVries and grandchildren: Ava, Nora, Lyla, Celia, Olivia and Oliver as well as her niece, Ashley Drunkenmiller. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steve Van Dyk.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bleeding Disorders of the Heartland (https://bdheartland.org) and The American Cancer Society.
