Nancy Elizabeth Plate, 86, died peacefully Friday, February 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Rev. Heecheon Jeon will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Assn.

Nancy was born September 23, 1937 in Iowa City, the daughter of Louis and Ruth (Hunter) Lord. She attended country school and was a graduate of Iowa City City High School. On October 26, 1958 Nancy married Harold Plate.

Nancy was employed by the Iowa City Community School District.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the White Shrine. Nancy had served on the Masonic Temple Board.

Nancy enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Most important was time spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and grand-puppies. She was a fan of college sports and the Chicago Cubs. She enjoyed children, and her neighborhood of friends.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Harold; their children, Terri (Rex) Lowrance of Roscoe, IL, Dennis Plate and Diane Stastny, both of Iowa City, and Janice (Todd) Cohenour of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Lowrance, Jennifer (Joe) Wartick, Andrew (Maddie) Stastny, and Abbigail Stastny; great grandchildren, Grant and Nolan Wartick; Cecilia and Benjamin Lowrance, and Hudson Stastny; her sister, Alice Goodlock of Manitou Beach, MI. and sister-in-law, Clodean Lord; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Charles and Timothy, her brother, Lyle Lord, and brother-in-law, Lauren Goodlock.
