Doris Gerot, 90, of Hills, Iowa, passed away on September 24, 2023 at Atrium Village Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Doris was born on September 7, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Francis W. Sr. and Bertha Ann (Bauer) Sueppel. She graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School in Iowa City. On October 16, 1951 she was united in marriage to Ralph Gerot at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City and to this union, four children were born.

Doris was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills, where she served on the Alter & Rosary committee and taught religious education years past.

Doris and Ralph farmed for many years east of Hills. Corn, beans, cattle, sheep and chickens could always be found on the farm. She always had impressive vegetable and flower gardens – she especially loved hibiscus and lilies. She was always busy cooking and caring for her family over the years and her family enjoyed her delicious cookies, cakes and custard pies. When she had a chance to get away, Doris would take a bus trip with her friends to Branson, Missouri in order to see Danny O’Donnell perform. She was always up for watching Hallmark movies or a good cooking show while working on her embroidery. But most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her children: Steve (Joan), Dave (Mary Jo) and Bill (Betty); grandchildren: Kelly (Chad), Glen and Gretchen, Megan (Nick), Christina (Gabe), great grandchildren: Caitlin, Christopher, Hailey, Jaxson, Memphis, Presley, Nashville, Olivia, Caden and Trent. Extended family members including many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ralph; daughter, Kathryn; siblings: Bud, Bob, Mary and Marge and her daughter-in-law, Carol, two sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law, one niece and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

The family would like to graciously thank the nurses and staff at Atrium Village and Gentiva Hospice for their thoughtful and attentive care of Doris during her time on hospice.
