Rita D. Champion, 89, died Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Cedar Manor in Tipton, IA surrounded by her loving family.

Family and friends will celebrate Rita’s life next summer, 2024, in Ishpeming, MI. Memorial donations may be directed to your local hospice.

Rita was born August 18, 1934 in Ishpeming, MI, the daughter of Alec and Eva (Lajoie) Pepin. On August 8, 1953 Rita married Gerald Champion. She was a member of the Ishpeming Kiwanis, Rotary Club, the Salvation Army, American Legion, Catholic Daughters, and St. Joseph Catholic in Ishpeming, through the Church she was involved in two missions to Honduras.

Rita and Gerald moved to Apache Junction, AZ around 2006, where they lived until Gerald’s passing. Due to health issues Rita moved to Iowa City, Iowa to be near family. In Iowa City, she was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Ostola of Tipton, Iowa and Cheryl Lampi of Vista, California, her siblings, Violet (Ron) Kelly, Frank (Kim) Pepin and Gerald (Judy) Pepin. Rita has 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous much loved nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald in 2012; her son, Jeffrey Champion; daughter, Gerrilynn Champion; brothers Paul (Lorraine) Pepin and Albert(Rita) Pepin; grandson Joel Ostola and great grandson Joey Moyle; son-in-law Alan Lampi and a very special friend, Larry Strabala.
