Nellie Doreen (Clough) Harrison died peacefully Sunday, September 10, 2023, with her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Porreca at her side. Upon her death Nellie was reunited, after nearly four years, with her beloved Buck, husband of nearly 73 years.

Born in East McKeesport, PA to Albert and Nellie (Gilbert) Clough on October 3, 1926, Nellie graduated from Norwin High School, North Huntington, PA in 1944. She attended business school in Pittsburgh, PA and worked for many years as Business Manager for a variety of employers in Mansfield, OH.

Nellie and William “Buck” Harrison were married on November 2, 1946, following his discharge from the US Naval Armed Guard. Together, they raised four children: Kathleen (Tom) Porreca, Joyce (Don) Schuttera, William “Brad” (Karen) Harrison, Jr, and James (Missy) Harrison. She and Buck enjoyed contract bridge and bowling. Nellie was a masterful knitter; making clothing for her daughters and baby blankets for friends, grandchildren and even favored waitresses! She attended Jazzercize into her 70s. Nellie’s sense of fashion was always on display, most apparently in sparkle and animal prints!

Summers always included time with some variation of grandchildren at the shore in Seaside Heights, NJ. Hilton Head, SC was another favorite vacation spot. Their grandchildren were always the center of their attention, traveling anywhere to support their athletic endeavors. Nellie’s favorite season was football season, when she could cheer on her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Her black and gold nails were legendary!

Nellie was baptized Presbyterian and in her adult years she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Mansfield, OH, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Ashland, OH, and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Midland, MI.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy (Dodi) Vannucci; husband, Buck, and daughter, Joyce. Nellie is survived by her three children and their spouses; her son-in-law, Don Schuttera, as well as seven grandchildren, Chris (Sara), Traci (Eric), Beth, Bucky (Meghan), Palmer (Aubri), Heather (Joe), and Jenn (Kyle). Her eleven great-grandchildren are Kevyn, Meghan, and Cameron Harrison, Ian and Renee Schuttera, Ava and Liam Harrison, Kylee and Colin Brophy, and Teddy and Aniela Kowalski. Nellie also leaves behind dear friend, Shelley Oberlin, and the Wednesday Lanny’s lunch crew from Midland, MI.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Iowa City on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 3:00pm with private interment of the remains of both her and Buck at a time and place to be determined.
